ISS/d-hall Supervisor

 

DEPARTMENT: Student Support Services               JOB STATUS: Full Time

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: N/A                               REPORTS TO: Principal; Classroom Teacher

GRADE/LEVEL: K-12  

WORK SCHEDULE: Per contracted days

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The ISS (in-school suspension) and Dhall (detention hall)  may work in a variety of positions in a school district. The primary roles are to assist, support, and work closely with students, teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing an educational benefit for students. Duties will vary according to the needs of the student from physical assistance and care to behavioral management and academic assistance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To assist the teacher with preparation for classroom activities

To be responsible for the safety and monitoring of students outside the classroom

To assist the school nurse with special needs students

To work with small groups of students

To help monitor students during special activities

To assist in the office

To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent.

To assist the director of transportation, director of special education, director of special services, director of curriculum and instruction. 

 

Specific responsibilities regarding students

  1. Students are to report to ISS (when assigned) as soon as they arrive on campus.
  2. Students are to remain in ISS until the end of the day. (3:20) They are not to leave the ISS room during the school day unless they are checked out through the office by their parents or guardian and with the permission of the principal or dean of students. 
  3. Students are not allowed to have a cell phone while in ISS.
  4. Students are not allowed to go to the cafeteria or snack bar unattended.
  5. Students are to work on assignments received from teachers or ISS supervisors.  
  6. Students are NOT allowed to visit with other students.
  7. Students shall ask for permission to use the bathroom from the ISS supervisor.
  8. The ISS supervisor shall gather assignments from teachers via email or phone.
  9. The ISS supervisor should keep the teacher-student relationship in an educational sense at all times. ISS is not a vacation it is a disciplinary action. 
  10. Students are not to take naps or lay their heads down during ISS. 
  11. Lunch orders will be called into the cafeteria by the ISS Teacher and delivered by the cafeteria to the ISS room. 
  12. Students who do not complete all of their ISS assignments will make up the time they missed the next school day(s) they return to school.

EDUCATION

Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent with an accredited educational institution. Title 1, Part A program employees must have a minimum of two years with an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education or completed competency on a formal state assessment. Experience

1 year of successful experience working with children. Other requirements per job description.

Certificates & Licenses

Valid Arkansas Paraprofessional certificate or license to meet ADE certification accreditation standards for the position’s essential duties and responsibilities.

Computer Skills

Ability to apply basic computer programs (spreadsheet, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, others) to enhance job performance. (Others could include e-School, HAC/TAC)

Other Requirements

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community.

Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all federal, state, and district requirements.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math operations to meet job expectations.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations appropriately to meet job expectations.
